Welcome to the 2020-21 New Jersey HFMA Chapter Year

We begin this chapter year in uncertain times. Everyone has been impacted in some way by the COVID-19 pandemic, some more severely than others, and our hearts go out to all who have suffered loss and pain. Undoubtedly, life as we knew it has been changed.

As we approach the summer, we are seeing encouraging signs in New Jersey that the situation is improving and are beginning to transition to our “new normal.” Our new normal may involve wearing masks, keeping a distance from those we care about and working from home. These are significant changes for all of us.

The New Jersey HFMA chapter will also need to operate under a new normal. Our chapter has always maintained a robust in-person meeting schedule to facilitate networking and education opportunities. Unfortunately, many of these events will not be able to happen this year. Although this is disappointing, we should look at this as an opportunity to shape our chapter to meet the changing needs of our members. Now is the time for us to come together with innovative ideas to support each other.

To that end, I hope all of you will remain engaged with our chapter during this time. Our chapter leadership is working hard to put together numerous webinar opportunities for members to receive education and credits virtually. The membership committee recently hosted our first virtual happy hour to facilitate networking and hopes to offer similar events in the coming months. And, recognizing many of our members are working remotely, the Garden State FOCUS will for the first time in its history shift to an electronic version for both the Spring and Summer editions so all members can receive the information in a timely manner.

Our board is continuously evaluating the situation and planning for when we can meet in person again. Rest assured, once we do take this step it will be with public health and safety at the forefront of our minds and we will take all necessary precautions to ensure everyone’s comfort and safety.

Although there will be challenges this chapter year, I am honored to have been chosen to lead the New Jersey HFMA chapter.  Our chapter is strong and I look forward to working alongside all of you this year.

Respectfully,

Stacey L. Medeiros
