Advanced Imaging Appropriate Use Criteria    (10:15am –11:10am)  

Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) goes into effect on January 1, 2018.  AUC is a set of criteria linking a specific clinical condition or presentation to one or more services assigning value to the appropriateness of the service.  This will impact certain outpatient Medicare radiology and cardiology imaging services in the attempt to improve health outcomes for patients, reduce expensive imaging studies and improve patient safety.

Here’s the latest intelligence regarding the 2018 midterm elections, with a rundown of the NJ landscape in the House and Senate and an overview of the national races which will determine control of Congress for 2019/2020.  Additional perspective is provided on the state of the Trump Presidency and what happens if Democrats take over one of the houses of Congress.  He provides a high-level overview of what may happen on health-policy during the second session of this Congress with a focus on the future of the Affordable Care Act and other healthcare bills.

Medicare Beneficiary Identifier Changes    (2:15pm – 3:15pm)

The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) of 2015 will impact Patient Access.  The removal of the Social Security Number based Medicare HIC number from Medicare cards was designed to minimize beneficiary medical identity theft.  Patient access burdens impacting beneficiaries, providers and CMS is anticipated.

No Fault/Worker’s Compensation Regulatory Update    (3:30pm –4:30pm)

Insights are provided regarding current and continued changes to the laws and processes that govern Workers’ Compensation and No Fault. There is much uncertainty surrounding the proper understanding of the laws governing hospital reimbursement in NJ for Worker’s Compensation and No Fault claims.  This has created a chaotic environment where the success of reimbursement action depends upon which Judge or Arbitrator decides the case.
