Clinical leaders are promoted to management based on strong clinical and interpersonal skills, then find themselves responsible for financial performance with little or no formal financial training. Finance Education for Clinicians introduces financial concepts for emerging or experienced leaders to strengthen their understanding of hospital finance.

  • Operational Finance  9:00 am – 10:15 am

    Operational Finance will introduce revenue and expense concepts required in daily operational management. These concepts also apply to all the topics that follow.

    Objective: Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of how hospital revenue and expenses are created.

  • Building a Business Owner Culture  10:30 am – 11:45 am
    Learn what a Business Owner culture is, how clinical leaders can adopt it, and how clinical care and finances are inter-related.

    Objective: 
    Participants will be able to identify barriers and benefits to operating with the Business Owner mind set.

  • Networking Lunch  11:45 am – 12:45 pm

  • Getting Paid for the Work You Do    12:45 pm – 2:00 pm
    Clinical departments work hard providing outstanding care to patients. Learn how to get paid for all that hard work, and why documentation is critical.

    Objective: Participants will understand the many obstacles that exist between providing excellent patient care and getting paid for it.

  • Break  2:00 pm – 2:15 pm

  • Service Line Profit & Loss Statements    2:15 pm – 3:30 pm
    Clinical leaders need to know if their service line is profitable or may need to be re-evaluated. Learn how to prepare a service line Profit & Loss statement, which reveals whether your services are profitable and ensures an understanding of how your service line is reimbursed.

    Objective: 
    Participants will be introduced to an overview of reimbursement methodology and a general approach for creating a service line Profit and Loss statement.

NEW JERSEY BOARD OF ACCOUNTANCY CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION CREDITS 
Based on our understanding of the New Jersey State Board of Accountancy’s continuing professional education (CPE) requirements, Sponsor No. 185, this course will qualify for 6 CPE credits: 1.5 in Finance, 1.5 in Management, 1.5 in Specialized Knowledge and 1.5 in Accounting.
